Aron, H. (University of California, Santa Barbara), H. H. Yonenaka, and H. I. Nakada. Glucosamine-6-phosphate degradation by Proteus vulgaris and isolation of phosphoglucosaminisomerase. J. Bacteriol. 87:1123-1128. 1964.-The presence of the enzyme, phosphoglucosaminisomerase, was demonstrated in a strain of Proteus vulgaris. Fructose-6-phosphate and ammonia were shown to be the primary reaction products. The optimal pH was 7.2 with a broad peak. This differs from previously reported bacterial phosphoglucosaminisomerases which had a pH optimum of about 5.8. Other properties of the enzyme are presented.

Structural properties of lipopolysaccharides from Rickettsia typhi and Rickettsia prowazekii and their chemical similarity to the lipopolysaccharide from Proteus vulgaris OX19 used in the Weil-Felix test.
The lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) isolated from typhus group (TG) rickettsiae Rickettsia typhi and Rickettsia prowazekii were characterized by chemical analysis and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) followed by silver staining. LPSs from two species of TG rickettsiae contained glucose, 3-deoxy-D-manno-octulosonic acid, glucosamine, quinovosamine, phosphate, and f...
متن کاملPlasmid Pattern of Biofilm Producing Proteus mirabilis and Proteus vulgaris among Clinical Isolates in Kerman University Hospitals during 2011-2012
Background & Aims: Emergence of biofilm producing Proteus strains created a serious problem in the treatment of catheter-associated urinary tract infections. The aim of this research was to study biofilm production and plasmid pattern of proteus strains associated with Urinary tract infection. Methods: A total of 88 strains of Proteus were isolated from samples collected in hospitals of Kerman/...
متن کاملPurification and properties of glucosaminephosphate isomerase of Proteus mirabilis.
A glucosamine-P isomerase has been identified in Proteus mirabilis. The 113-fold purified enzyme exhibits a pH optimum of 7.5 with a secondary maximum at 8.5 and a temperature optimum at 37 degrees C. The apparent Km was 13.3 mM for fructose-6-P and 18.8 mM for L-glutamine. Molecular weight of the enzyme has been estimated as 120 000 and the protein can be dissociated in four subunits by SDS-po...
